I had really been looking forward to this book for a few months now. Unfortunately it was very disappointing. The story was way to rushed, it felt like Virgil's uncle got out of jail, hung out with his family, when exercising got kidnapped, saved and then died all in the same day. The art seemed truncated also, it really felt like there were panels missing. In more than one scene the action just seemed to skip, only showing the windup then the fly ball without showing the hit. The best part of the book was the Dwayne McDuffie commemoration in the back. I really really would love to see a new Static book become an ongoing, but if this is the jump off point, this will be a pretty bad first step.
edit: i geuss this was just a commoration thing for Mr. McDuffie and they are pushing back the ongoing to the DC relaunch

Been a little while...
So, like the title says. Haven't really been busy or anything just procrastinating on making posts. But, I have been reading some cool new stuff and trying to stay caught up with my books while trying not to spending a fortune. I have a lot of new ideas for posts that i think will be cool, and news about what i have been up to also.
Well, i have made a lot of progress on my Milestone collecting i mentioned i was starting back in January. I have made substantial gains in Icon, Hardware, and Blood Syndicate, unfortunately not much progress in way of Static; the book that started it all. I just finished getting all 50 issues of Hardware last Sunday and that is pretty exciting. I have read the first 4 issues and its pretty interesting so far. I have less than 15 issues of left to get for both Blood Syndicate and Icon, and way less for Shadow Cabinet and Static. I lucked out and was able to get these books for free, just had to sort comics for a few Saturdays a few hours at a time. (suckers)
Since I last posted I have read Superior by Mark Millar out through Marvel's Icon line. I had got the first issue when it came out cause it was new and i needed something new. That first issue was meh (not bad not good), but I got the next few issue later during a lite week and they were pretty cool. Issue four leaves me wanting to know more, and I'm a sucker for weird cliff hangers. If i had to describe the book I would say it is Tom Hank's Big meets Shazam; kid is given powers by an unknown force (space monkey) but cannot turn back and has to live with his friend while playing superhero and tyring to let his parents know he is ok. Sound like a meh concept but Millar seems to know were he is going and I'm really digging the art by Leinil Francis Yu. I think I like this series and it could catch on because it doesn't have the normal continuity baggage a lot of comics have today.
Some subject I think I'm going to try and speak on in the future will be, my thought on why we need the actual comic retailers, what i think the future of comics will look like, how are new comic fan made, how has the image of comics and there readers changed over the years, and where is the Black Panther movie.

Wondercon 2011 Green Lantern Footage

Just saw a four minute trailer for the new GL movie and this one hit me a bit harder than the first.(which had left me going meh) I guess they showed this longer clip at wondercon and i can see why. here. This should have been what they showed the first time, you got a lot more action and what the story was about rather than some low rendered cgi and the weird looking friend of Hal.
New Kirman in August -- The Infinite

Just heard about this new The Infinite book by Kirman on Newsarama.com and i think im kinda excited. This is gonna be a time travel book, which in my mind has the potential to be very cool, if it is done well. This is a story about a man (middle left) that goes back in time to train himself (left) to fight the Infinite (time travelling hoard that has taken his future - not pictured)
If this book can keep the time travel straight, and not go all Bill & Ted, but more like Back to the Future it could be cool.

My Role as a comic reader

This idea was put into my head a few months back by the guys at the CGS podcast, "What is our role as comic book readers and fans?" I have been thinking about this a lot since i heard that episode, and i feel that at the very least my role as a comic reader and fan is to spread the Gospel of comic books. I realize that i have been doing this for years, mainly by getting comics into the hands of non comic readers. Basically, if i know you and you show even the slightest bit of interest in the Spider-man ill give you a trade of current Spider-Man with the slightest hope you'll buy another(yes im the pusher man of comics). I think i have given almost all of my friends at least one comic with those hopes in mind. This has worked better with some than others. One friend recently started collecting spider-man comics pretty hard after years of reading some stuff that i gave him and seeing me collecting. Another friend just got caught up on the current deadpool series, when in the beginning he liked the random deadpool internet memes and i gave him the first issue. Others just mooched off me for walking dead issue by issue.
Also i try and work comics into conversation with people i work with that have interest in the movies, and also let people know when local comic events are going down (gave local con flyers to my wife to give out at work).
I feel that it should be the duty of all comic fans to let non comic fans know about this stuff cause comic only advertise in comics, comic conventions only advertise in comcs, and people barely know that comics are still around except for when Captain America dies or Spider-Man takes off his mask.

Invincible #77 (Image) and Genius #1 (Top Cow)

Recently read both these issue and i thought they were both awesome. Invincible took a huge turn that i did not see coming, and Genius is just an original book; one that I have been seeking for some time now.
Starting with the newbie, Genius is a book about a girl leading an LA gang towards taking over there neighborhood (and eventually the city?) to make things better for themselves, the city's "cancer" as they are viewed. I think i am really going to like this book because it takes a point of view you don't see very often in comic books, and one I have wanted to see. The idea of a not so common street gang taking over, with good intent (despite the means), is cool to me. The art in the book is cool, everything has a still photo feel mixed with cell shading cartoon thing. The writing and story of this first issue is very good, the slang is not over the top and you know what is going on without the pilot season book (still want it though). One thing i did not like about the book was toward the end the main cop guy that saw this coming goes into this whole long thing how he thinks the person leading this uprising is this centuries strategical genius, which is kind of a stretch for hims to make in this first book because he bareley knows it is one dude leading all this. It just felt really forced for them to try and tie in the title of the book. Over all though the book was really cool, hopefully top cow puts it out one time.

Invincible did not disappoint me. The first few page of the issue was like getting kick in the groin if it was attached to your face. I don't want to spoil anything so I'm gonna try and be vague. Kirkman i don't think could disappoint me if he tried. This issue just took a very drastic turn that is did not see coming and i really want to see where it is going. What will Mark do from now on? Will his dad stay on earth? Will anyone else know what is happening? I really just cannot wait.

Young Justice

Just watched the first couple episodes of cartoon network's new Young Justice cartoon show. It was pretty cool. I'm remembering how disappointed i was when I saw the first episode of Teen Titans. Young Justice Pretty much does the opposite of what TT did in every way, making it a much better show. Its less comedy more action, more American style less anime style, and the characters are a bit more real and less always in costume. I would love to see wonder girl in the show though, and i am wondering where arrowette is; its been 4 episodes and she is all over the credits but no where in the show.
All and all I'm looking forward to the coming eps. check it out.
